What is Steampunk?
According to Wikipedia, "Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American Wild West, in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.
Steampunk perhaps most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them, and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art."
Good movie examples include "Wild Wild West," "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," and Jackie Chan's version of "Around the World in Eighty Days."
"Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures, that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction, Victorian-era fiction, art nouveau design, and films from the mid-20th century. Various modern utilitarian objects have been 'modded' by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk."

What is the Airship Galileo?
The Airship Galileo is a small-but-growing group of friendly Steampunk enthusiasts in the North Texas/Dallas-Fort Worth area who get together at least once a month to eat, chat, show off our latest Steampunk clothing and props to each other and to passers-by, and just have fun.
We have no membership fees or dues.
Steampunk costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory. (They're really fun, though!)
Our only requirement at this time is that all members be at least 18 years old or more. Families with children younger than 18 are welcome; however, we do require at least one parent or guardian accompany their children.

What do you guys do?
Other than our monthly meetings at the Abbey Inn in Denton, TX? Well, plans are in the works for us to visit various "Steampunk-y" activities (like riding the Tarantula train from Grapevine to Fort Worth & back), and to attend various Steampunk conventions.
